Norwegian delegates visited GIPPEC and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre

Visiting the Department of Supportive Care

On December 6-7, Dr. Stein Kaasa, chair of the European Palliative Care Research Centre and Professor Jon Harvard Loge from Norway visited the Department of Supportive Care and our global institute, GIPPEC at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

During this short and eventful visit, Dr. Kaasa and Professor Loge toured the Palliative Care Inpatient Unit, the ELLISCR Cancer Rehab and Survivorship Centre and the affiliated Kensington Hospice.

Meeting the leadership and research team

The Norwegian delegates met with PM and the department’s leadership, including Mary Gospodarowicz, Camilla Zimmermann, Gary Rodin, Jennifer Jones, Fei Fei Lu, Madeline Li and Robin Forbes.

Dr. Kaasa and Professor Loge also shared their experience of integrating cancer palliative care in the public health system in Norway with the research team in the department.

Meeting with the GIPPEC team

On the second day, Dr. Kaasa and Professor Loge met with the GIPPEC team to further discuss collaborative research and educational opportunities. An MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) between GIPPEC and the European Palliative Care Research Centre (PRC) was signed, forming the basis for further research and educational collaboration in palliative and end of life care in the years to come.
